If you don't have anything to do...go visit...it turned into a very interesting trip!
We found the Markay, which I didn't know about....
The wonderful entrance of an old movie theater.......
We discovered these wonderful quilts hanging on the wall....
There was quite a variety of quilts....one of my favorite...
This one called Funky Tree of Life by Ann Farris.
Love the snake wound around the branch....
This one ...Tie Patchwork Crazy Quilt hand made by Evelyn Woolman born in 1889....was amazing.
But the amazing part of the visit happened in a visit to the theater area of the Markay Cultural Arts Center.....
The restoration of the Markay...... by the Southern Hills Arts Council.
The beautiful lights.....
The Bas Reliefs on the walls...there are 6 which represents life in the Jackson area.
Beautiful seating and looks like the stage can be seen from any seat in the house!
This old theater now has a new life.....
There is also an Architectural walking tour....we did a few of the houses...and I was amazed to see such wonderful old homes......
There is a brochure you can pick up at the Tourist bureau or Markay (which is right next door)..with pictures and address of the beautiful houses....I thought this one had such charm....
Then we decided to go out to the Amish bakery...well we get there and find it is only open on Thurs., Friday and Saturday....very disappointed that I couldn't get a nice cream doughnut or some other tasty treat.....we then visited the nursery ...and what a marvelous nursery it is!!!!
Four Mile Greenhouse & Nursery......
This nursery had everything! I bought a yellow Cone Flower....I hope is does good in my yard...There is even a pond in the back. They are open all year ...can't wait to go back!
My yellow Coneflower....
Butterflies flying around....
These Cone Flowers look like they have hats on !
By now we are hungry.....
We decide to eat at Arch & Eddie's Gathering House! Such a nice place! If you go on a Wednesday...Cali Taco's is the special and I ordered mine with pulled pork and rice and black beans...It was delicious!!!!!
So now was time to head home....we did see some great cows....
They seemed as interested in us as we were in them......
Was a very nice way to spend the day....If you get a chance...drive down before the 18th to see the Quilts or check their web site for what exhibits are coming up....
See you soon...Oh yes! This all was free except for gas and food!
