Just a beautiful day! Warm and sunny, just like spring. I put out the peanuts for the Blue Jays that come every morning for them and I try to get pictures of them...this was the best I could do today....
So nice and warm and sunny...I decided to take a drive to see what I could find.
I started in the Park and got the swans out of water.....
They even look bigger on the land. That is when I noticed the wind!
I noticed a group of geese under the bridge...guess they were trying to stay out of the wind..
I thought I would just drive around for a while...maybe the wind would stop.
I was going to the Park annex and got these pictures of the High School. The walk way from the main building to the gym is still there and used...
The greenhouse doesn't look like it is used anymore.
Next I drove to the corner of Water and High...This is what the old Red & White grocery looks like now
I use to walk to get bread or milk or whatever my Mom needed...That was a fun thing for me to do.
This is where Crispie Creme use to be....
It is now Kaye's Beauty Shop. My Mom went there to get her hair done.
Drove thru town and Jerry's Pizza looks the same....
Then cut over to where Wear-ever was....the buildings are still there....
The guard building and water tower.
Wear-Ever office building, I worked there in 1967-68
It looked sad but there seemed to be something happening in this building with the Alcoa sign on it...cars were parked outside.
This is 23 going by the Mead...where the Santa and sleigh use to go....
The smoke stack! It is in bad need of painting...I am afraid one day it will not be there. My Dad studied so hard to past the test to get his boiler license and worked in the control room for the smoke stack.
Then I went by Poland Park....such a nice park for the neighborhood....
This building is on the corner of 4th and Hickory. I use to live on 4th as a little girl just down the street before 23 was built..Our house was torn down. This was the neighborhood grocery. It is now a laundry mat.
This is the corner of Hickory and Main St., the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
New System Bakery just down the street to the left. This shows how the wind was blowing
It was so windy, that when I tried to get out of the car to take pictures, I was almost blown away!!!
Turned up Second street and Mulberry....I like this mural...It has the Standard Elevator in it and the canal.
The Majestic.....Where I spent many Saturday afternoons in the balcony watching movies....
The Law Enforcement Center...where our beloved Kresge's use to be....at Second St. and Paint.
This shows the back of it and the Courthouse clock tower and the store across the street.
I can't remember the name...Was it Erdmann's? So long ago...Hope someone can help me with that....
This is where the YMCA was on Second St.....gone....construction going on....
I turned for home and decided to wait for a less windy day....I did enjoy the drive around town where I don't normally go and see the changes. I hope you enjoyed this short ride, if you let me know what you would like to see, I could take pictures and post them on a less windy day!!!!
Thanks a bunch ! From Wichita Kansas
ReplyDeleteThanks glad you enjoyed!
DeleteI loved your trip around town. :) Would you like to take a trip of the historic places around town and show us? Adena, Mound City, Camp Sherman, more downtown shots, where the Eric Canal went through...or even Underground railroad stops.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I will work on it and see what I can come up with....please keep checking back!
