Taking the girls birding was something we had been looking forward to for a long time...Either the weather was miserable or we couldn't get everyone at the same time...Finally this past Sunday we hopped in Connie's car and off we went to Deer Creek for lunch and some bird watching!
This is the first bird we saw was a Red-tailed Hawk...
Everyone got very excited, he was fairly close and very beautiful. We got to the lodge and started our lunch.....
As you can see the view is the attraction in the dining room at the lodge!
Sandy and Connie...
Diana and Me...I had the salad and they had rubens ....everything was delicious....
As we were eatting, activity started happening on the lake!
First we spotted this calico cat wondering around and then...
A Horned Grebe...this was a first for me...
Of course there were Gulls , a Heron and Canadian Geese also....So between talking and looking to see what else has flown in, we were having a great time.
Then I noticed the crows....quite a few of them...
Down by the water...
Then I saw a pair up in the tree by the window....I didn't want to scare my friends..but I sensed that they knew we were there behind the window and were talking about us....
It was like the one was asking what was going on.....
Don't look now but that group of girls in the dining room....Don't look...
I told you not to Look!!!!
Yep they are still there...we better warn everyone!
So off they went .... It was like an Alfred Hitchcock movie...and I was the only one that witnessed it and I didn't want to spoil our fun...so I kept silent....
Here in the lobby of the lodge...such a beautiful place...we walked around a bit and then left to drive around the lake to see what else we could find.
I took them over to the Harding Cabin...I would love to stay in it sometime...and they had to go peek in the windows...
The stairs to the lake...
It was very cold...so we hurried back to the warm car after our brief walk around the cabin...
Our next stop was on Dick Rd, the bird blind.....
So cold....but we did see some ducks ...and about 20 Cardinals flew past us....that was our big thrill of the day so far....
By now I think the girls were enjoying the ride and learning about birding until.....
Well, we laughed and laughed after discovering how Diana was bird watching with her binoculars!!!!! LOL
We now turned to head home and thought we would go over to Canal Rd . While driving down 22, in a field we saw an Eagle and 2 juvenile Eagles....We turned the car around and went back to get a better look....
The Adult was gone but these two were still sitting in the field and on the other side of the road was a Northern Harrier scanning that field for dinner....Everyone was thrilled!
We got to Canal Rd. and the first thing we saw, no not a bird but a bit of the past!
My Dad had a yellow and white one and one of the other girls' father had one too....brought back some fun memories.....
Was very quiet along Canal Rd. We were still talking about the Eagles..so decided to go by the nest on Orr Rd., Sandy and Diana hadn't see it...
Sorry for the picture, was starting to get dark...but an Eagle is on the nest and over in the tree was not 1 but 2 Eagles!
So we had a 6 Eagle day!!!!! Couldn't get any better.....
We finished off the day by having coffee and cup cakes at Connie's and more wonderful conversation....
Diana and I left and before I dropped her at her home, we went thru the park and there was a group of Redhead ducks and a Heron.
When I dropped Diana off and headed back to my home, I noticed the moon was coming up and it was a full moon....
What a beautiful ending to a wonderful day with good friends.
And the Crows??? " Never More " did we see them.... ;)
